چکیده

ICUs are crucial medical facilities for treating life-threatening diseases, and bacterial contamination of ICU equipment devices is a significant cause nosocomial infections. In this study, total 100 clinical specimens (urine, sputum pus) were collected from patients admitted in the ICU. Vacuum-assisted closure device in intensive care unit patients and dissemination of Gram-negative bacteria

colleagues in a recent issue of Critical Care [1]. Vacuumassisted closure (VAC) decompression is promising for the management of open abdomen, but our limited experience with this system suggests that dissemination of bacteria may occur. Recently, two patients were treated with VAC in our intensive care unit (ICU). Patient 1 was a 62-year-old man who was originally operated on for paraganglioma...

Molecular Identification of ESBLs Genes (blaTEM, blaSHV and blaCTX) among Non-fermenting Gram-negative Bacteria Isolated from Hospitalized Patients in Mazandaran Province, Iran

Background and purpose: Production of beta-lactamase enzymes by bacteria, especially Extended-spectrum β-lactamases (ESBLs) is one of the major problems worldwide. ESBLs are mostly located on bacterial plasmids and it is recognized that SHV, TEM, and CTX-M are prevailing among them. The aim of this study was to determine the ability to produce ESBLs genes based on molecular method among non-fer...

Molecular Investigation of Staphylococcal Cassette Chromosome mec (SCCmec) Elements Isolated from Intensive Care Unit

Background and Aims: Based on the results, Staphylococcus aureus is one of the serious infectious agents found in community and hospitals with remarkable potential for high morbidity and mortality around the globe. The present study was carried out for molecular investigation of methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus strains and Staphylococcal Chromosomal Cassette mec (SCCmec) phenotypes i...

Sensitivity of surveillance testing for multidrug-resistant Gram-negative bacteria in the intensive care unit.

We tested intensive care unit patients for colonization with multidrug-resistant Gram-negative bacilli (MDR GNB) and compared the results with those of concurrent clinical cultures. The sensitivity of the surveillance test for detecting MDR GNB was 58.8% (95% confidence interval, 48.6 to 68.5%). Among 133 patients with positive surveillance tests, 61% had no prior clinical culture with MDR GNB.

Multidrug-resistant bacteria isolated from intensive-care-unit patient samples.

We examined epidemiological aspects and bacterial resistance patterns of bacteria isolated from intensive care unit (ICU) patient samples. During a 10 month period (from June 2006 to March 2007), 812 samples of blood, urine and cerebral spinal fluid (CSF) from 553 hospitalized patients, in ICU wards, including pediatric surgical, neonatal, adult surgical I, adult surgical II, general pediatrics...
